For the first time since the third week of the 2013 season, Saint Louis sits on top of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top-10 Media Poll released Monday.
The Crusaders (2-0) were idle over the weekend but took over the top spot after Mililani suffered a stunning 76-53 loss to Liberty High on Friday in Henderson, Nev. The Trojans had a 16-game winning streak end against the Patriots, who one week earlier came to Aloha Stadium and lost 43-16 to the Crusaders.
Four different teams received first-place votes with the Crusaders leading the way with nine. Punahou, which scored 22 unanswered points to rally from a 15-0 deficit and beat Del Oro (Calif.) on Friday, jumped to the No. 2 spot despite grabbing only one first-place vote. Mililani was still picked No. 1 on three different ballots but fell to No. 3. The last first-place vote went to Kahuku, which holds at No. 4.
The rest of the top 10 remained the same with Kamehameha, Farrington, Kailua, Waianae, Kapaa and Kapolei rounding out the rankings.
Voters were mixed on how to handle the Trojans’ loss. While three voters kept Mililani as their No. 1 team, five others dropped the Trojans to fourth. Saint Louis was listed third on two ballots.
Kahuku had the most variance. One voter pegged the Red Raiders as the No. 1 team in the state while another had Kahuku ranked sixth.
Saint Louis will open ILH play on Saturday against No. 5 Kamehameha at Aloha Stadium in one of two games featuring two ranked teams this weekend. Either No. 6 Farrington or No. 7 Kailua will get knocked from the undefeated ranks when the two schools square off Saturday at Roosevelt.
No. 2 Punahou plays at ‘Iolani on Friday afternoon while No. 3 Mililani travels to Aiea on Saturday evening.
No. 4 Kahuku hosts Castle, No. 9 Kapaa plays Waimea on the Garden Isle and No. 10 Kapolei hosts Campbell on Friday night.
No. 8 Waianae has a bye.

I hope liberty sees this so they aint walkin around thinkin they beat the best team in hawaii.. st. louis D is much bigger,faster and more talented. mililani offense is right up there with the best in the state .maybe even the top. but st. louis has the better overall TEAM.
Okay, Just make it to the Final an worry about Millilani everyone will feel there wrath! There pissed just take care your own see you at the top! If you can make it!
Interested to see who had Kahuku ranked 6? That’s interesting. I don’t see how Mililani can give up 80 points and still be ranked higher than Kahuku.
Majority of these voters must either dislike the Red Raiders or just be plain blind. Not only will they win the OIA but they will be in the State Championship game against Punahou and win. You aint going to score on their defense and nobody is going to be able to slow down the never ending wave of RB’s they got…
So Mililani loses on the mainland and they drop in the Hawaii poll ? How does that factor into where they rank locally?
Because Mililani allowed 73 points to a team that St Louis held to 16. If St. Louis hadn’t also played that team (and won easily) I’d say you have a point. But since they both played the same team and had wildly different results, I’d say that it’s relevant when you are comparing the two teams. St Louis has done everything to earn the top spot and definitely looks like the best team in the state at the moment, but we’ll see how things turn out at the end of the season. Being ranked first doesn’t mean anything if you don’t walk away with a trophy!
because.. its still a regular season game..it counts..and they made the state look bad on top of it. they deserve to be 4th
Easy to say Mililani vs Kahuku for OIA….. states is still up in the air tho…
Because some of these pollsters dont watch the games they only look at the weekly scores and stats in the paper. Balony! I was hoping for Mililani to rep our state but they came home empty handed, waste of time, unlike Punahou who played Balls out and had the will to beat a very good Cali team.
Wasnt it just last year that St. Louis’s defense couldnt stop a toddler from scoring a touchdown? Why are they now the top Defense in the state? oh, wait, thats right, they went into the free agent market and got studs from Maui, Kauai, Big Island and some of the Oahu schools! lol, nice to have recruiting at your finger tips.
Who really cares how the schools are ranked at this time of the season. The rankings are bogus especially when they have a division II team (Kapaa) ranked amongst the division I schools. I’ve mentioned for several years that the SA sports staff should establish two separate rankings for football; division i and division II since they’re playing for separate division state championship. Only in Hawaii, football rankings are comprised of different division.

@808polytics; Bradah its OVA!!! This year has got to be the weakest year ever for High school football. The Divisions are so top heavy its ridiculous. You know like how when there is a job opening for stevedores and everyone applies but we all know that its all just formalities because they already know who they going hire? Well thats how this years football is. We all know it will be between Kahuku and Mililani for the OIA and St. Louis and Punahou for the ILH.
