Waiakea’s Ondo wins second race

Waiakea’s Louie Ondo won Saturday’s Kamehameha-Hawaii Invitational. Ondo has won both of his cross country races two weeks into the season.

Ondo finished the boys 3-mile course at Kamehameha-Hawaii in 16 minutes, 46.07 seconds. Hilo’s River Brown was second in 16:58.24 and Konawaena’s Cody Ranfrnaz placed third in 17:00.18.

Hilo placed three runners in the top 10 to win the boys team title with 39 points. Kealakehe was second with 68 and Waiakea was third with 80.


Amy Baray of Whittier Christian (Calif.) held off Waiakea’s Saya Yabe to win the girls 3-mile race. Baray crossed the finish line in 20:45.81 and Yabe, who won last week’s season opener, was second in 20:54.18.


Hawaii Prep’s Emi Higgins and Ada Benson finished third and fourth to lead Ka Makani to the team title with 42 points. Hilo placed second with 53 and Kamehameha-Hawaii was third with 84.
