Two Oahu high schools are looking for varsity baseball coaches.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World learned this week that Waialua coach Terry Onizuka and Pac-Five coach Dennis Fukunaga will not be returning next season. No reason was given by either Waialua athletic director Bryce Kaneshiro or Pac-Five AD Peter Estomago.
Onizuka went 3-7 with the Bulldogs in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II regular season in the spring, including a first-round playoff loss.
Fukunaga and the Wolfpack went 11-7-1 overall, including an 8-4 regular season and a second-place finish in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II tournament and a first-round loss in the D-II state tournament.
Candidates interested in the Waialua baseball job can fax resumes by July 10 to Bryce Kaneshiro, Waialua athletic director, at 637-8209, or emailed to bryce_kaneshiro@notes.k12.hi.us.
The Bulldogs are also looking for a varsity boys and girls golf coach, according to Kaneshiro, and can use the preceding instructions to apply. The new coach will take over for Randall Erice, who will not return to coach next season.
Candidates interested in the Pac-Five baseball job can submit a letter of interest and a resume by July 3 to Peter Estomago, Pac-Five athletic director, to pac5athletics@hawaii.rr.com.
According to Estomago, Pac-Five is also looking for applicants interested in the head coaching positions at the junior varsity and intermediate levels.
