Work continues on at least six football and/or track and field facilities around the OIA.
A small sampling of what to expect, according to an OIA spokesman, is listed below.
>> Radford: The track around the football field is being redone and it’s possible the work will be finished halfway through upcoming football season. Until it’s completed, the Rams will play football games away from home.
>> Moanalua: A new field has been put in and will be used for home football games in the fall. With brand-new grass in place and growing stronger, the field is not being used right now.
>> Campbell: Work on putting in a new field is not expected to be done until December, so the Sabers football team will play all away games in 2015. It’s likely the boys and girls soccer teams will also have to play away games for 2015-16.
>> Nanakuli: Work on a new track around the field has a planned finish date of July, and Golden Hawks football head coach Keala Watson is hoping his team can get back on the field then.
>> Farrington: Work on a new 4,000-seat stadium and football field is expected to be completed in December 2016. Farrington, as usual, will play its football home games the next two seasons at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium and plans to host varsity football games for the first time in the fall of 2017.
>> McKinley: A new track and football field is expected to be ready before the 2016 fall sports season. The field will be used for football practice and not games until funding can be found for a stadium and facilities. The Tigers, however, plan to hold soccer games on the field when it is completed.
I hope they didn’t hire the company that did TC Ching field. The field took too long to complete and already looks bad.
That sucks didn’t Roosevelt just get their field in the last few years? I hope we aren’t paying for this job twice.
