The United States Naval Academy has offered ‘Iolani junior Keoni-Kordell Makekau a football scholarship.
Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance shared the news on its Facebook page today.
Makekau, a 5-foot-11, 166-pound wide receiver/slotback/placekicker, also has offers from Washington State and Hawaii. He won the ILH boys 100-meter dash recently with a time of 11.01 seconds.
As a wide receiver, he had 49 receptions for 756 yards and seven touchdown catches as the Raiders won the Division II state title. He also kicked eight field goals and was a major factor with his deep range on kickoffs.
Makekau was a Star-Advertiser all-state second-team selection as a utility player. In 2013, he was all-state second team as a wide receiver.
This is believed to be Navy’s first offer to an island football player this year.
