Former Dixie State football coach Greg Croshaw is one of many applicants for the Kahuku football head coaching position, a trusted source close to Kahuku football said yesterday.
Croshaw went 214-56-1 with Dixie State, before it moved from junior college to NCAA Division II.
Darren Johnson, the former Kailua head coach and Kahuku assistant who is currently a Kapolei assistant confirmed he applied for the job as well, and another source said Asai Gilman is another candidate for the position. Gilman, the father of Red Raiders defensive back Alohi Gilman who signed to play for Navy next year, is a former Kamehameha player.
The list of other applicants previously reported includes former Kahuku head coach Siuaki Livai, current Kahuku assistants Tommy Heffernan Sr. and Sterling Carvalho, former Kahuku assistant Byron Beatty, and JV head coach and interim varsity head coach James Kammerer.
The position opened last month when Lee Leslie, who spent one year at the helm, resigned to return to his family in Idaho.
I think they have eliminated a few of those applicants by not inviting them to an interview. Dont quote me on that but it doesnt matter because we all know that the real coaches are sitting in the stands at every game.
Tommy Heffernan? No way. Say it ain’t so. That’s the guy doing all of St Louis’ scouting in the Kahuku school district. That’s like putting the fox in charge of the hen house.
I’m pretty sure the rumors are true by not letting due process for several homegrown applicants. It’s sad that the panel don’t have or respect the community input. They’re trying to out smart themselves and look what happened. Stop wasting precious years. Just put Siuaki back in already, at least he has t h e community support or uncle Tommy Heffernan.
I wonder if Doug Semones applied for the job. Apparently he was really upset that Reggie Torres got the head job over him after Siuaki Livai first resigned. Though not from the islands, Doug Semones had relocated to Hawaii and was living on the North Shore and was on the Kahuku football coaching staff when he got the head job back in 1988.
Just got word that Tommy is no longer in the running.
Doug semoness is now the head coach at occidental college and his offense coordinator is Darnell Arseneaux, not sure if I spelt his last name right, but he’s a st.louis product. Anyway Doug was a great coach that really loved kahuku! I hope the mice mouse club listens to Donald duck and a homegrown coach, if not ,give Vae Tata a chance! He understands our ways.
