McKenzie Milton, Mililani’s record-shattering junior quarterback, has been offered a scholarship by the University of Hawaii.
Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance confirmed the news today.
“I was pretty stoked when coach (Rod) York called me,” Milton said this afternoon.
UH actually made the offer more than a week ago, on Nov. 29 — one day before Thanksgiving. This week, Milton got to chat with two UH assistant coaches during their visit to Mililani High School. He knows quite a bit about the Warriors program — as a fan.
“My parents have been season-ticket holders since I was a kid, so I saw a lot of their games. Playing at home would be sweet, since my family is here,” he said.
There’s no rush, Milton, added, to make any decision soon.
“We’ll see what’s best for my family and myself and go from there. Then again, colleges might sign another guy. Most programs will sign only one quarterback max,” he said.
Milton, who said he is 6 feet and 160 pounds, passed for 421 yards and a state-championship game record seven touchdowns in a 53-45 win over top-seeded Punahou two weeks ago. Mililani finished the season 13-0 and is currently ranked No. 17 in the CBS MaxPreps computer national rankings.
For the year, he threw for 3,339 yards and 35 TDs with just eight picks. He also rushed for 802 yards (8.9 per carry) and 12 TDs.
