A key match to determine the final OIA Red playoff berths on Monday ended with a Kaiser sweep of Farrington.
The Cougars (5-5) picked up their second win against a Division I opponent, knocking off the Governors 25-22, 25-17 on Farrington’s senior night.
Senior Karley DeMello had a game-high 10 kills and middle Teuila Gardner came up big in the second set with five of her six kills. Gardner hit .600 in the match while DeMello ended at .444.
Cougars setter Raquel Robello had 23 assists and did a good job distributing the ball around to the other starters. Sophomore Chantelle Fiso-Naki had four kills in 11 swings and Briana Halemanu added five kills.
With the win, the Cougars climbed back to .500 at 5-5 overall and clinched a playoff berth in the OIA Red tournament. Kaiser finishes the regular season on Wednesday at home against Division II Kailua.
Farrington dropped to 4-6 on the season and has no wins against Division I competition, leaving the Govs out of the playoffs. Six teams from the East and West advance to the OIA Red tournament which begins next week.
Senior Shaunalei Kahakai led the Govs with four kills, nine assists and two aces and Erin Perry added six assists and three kills.
Farrington finishes its season at Roosevelt on Wednesday.
