In sweltering heat Saturday, Kamehameha’s Kaeo Kruse ran to a victory in the Punahou Invitational cross-country meet.
Kruse, a junior, finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 3.99 seconds to beat teammate Kainalu Asam (16:46.11), a senior, by about 42 seconds.
Eric Miyauchi of Moanalua took third as the top-finishing OIA runner, followed by Connor Lehl of Punahou and Jakob Dewald of Mililani.
Henry M. Gunn of Palo Alto, Calif. and Kamehameha tied for first place in the team standings with 68 points. Punahou was third with 90.
In the girls race, Gillian Meeks, a junior from Henry M. Gunn, won with a time of 18:03.62.
Pac-Five’s Jordan Jones, a freshman, was the top Hawaii finisher and second overall in 19:10.81. Henry Gunn’s Emily Aiken was third, with Punahou’s Kailey Totherow fourth and Hennessey Ellis of Kamehameha fifth.
The OIA’s best showing was by Kaiser’s Lisa Tashiro, who placed eighth.
Punahou won the team race with 43 points to beat Henry Gunn’s 53. ‘Iolani was third with 70.
