East over the West 20-7 in Friday’s HUB Goodwill Senior Classic at wet John Kauinana Stadium. See the game story here. Subscriber content.)
An off-and-on drizzle that had the umbrellas up most of the night, but there was some good action.
Farrington’s Motu Heimuli was named the East’s Defensive POY. Saint Louis WR Devan Stubblefield, who had two TD catches, was named East Offensive POY. East QB Noah Brum of Kalani delivered three TD passes.
The West’s top players were Kelii Padello of Mililani (defense), Isaac Hurd of Campbell (offense) and Jae Won Huh of Aiea (special teams). Punahou’s Larry Tuileta was on the sideline, but didn’t suit up because of flu symptoms.
All in all, a relatively safe night on a wet field, a lot of nice football plays and plenty of camaraderie between players from all over Oahu.
It got wetter and wilder on the way home. Major downpour on the way back to town in the Waipio area. I saw a car hydroplane for a couple of seconds in the far left lane. Crazy rain, people had to slow down to 5-10 mph.
