Part 3
The first half was a classic battle and the Lunas led 9-7 going into the lockerroom at War Memorial Stadium. But the momentum shifted in the second half.
The Lunas played without their leading rusher, Jared Rocha-Islas, who suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter not long after scoring on a 49-yard touchdown run.
Kaiser, meanwhile, went to its power ground game, and there was no stopping that. The OIA White championships took control of the line of scrimmage, ran wide over and over and wore the MIL champions down 20-9.
With an early 78-yard kick return by Thomas Buntenbah-Leong to paydirt, plus two TD runs by Fitou Fisiiahi, Kaiser advanced to the final of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II State Championships.
