Eight volleyball players and eight baseball players were among the signees at the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance letter-of-intent signing event this morning at Elks Lodge Waikiki.
In all, 29 student-athletes signed letters, including record-breaking swimmer Jasmine Mau of Punahou. The senior chose Cal, and the setting for her official decision could not have been more appropriate. It was at the Elks Lodge, as a 3-year-old, where Mau learned to swim.
Two-time girls singles tennis state champion Alyssa Tobita of Mililani signed with Oregon.
The volleyball signees included UH recruit Savanah Kahakai of Farrington and Alohi Robins-Hardy of Kamehameha. Robins-Hardy will play volleyball and basketball at BYU. Playing both sports at the collegiate level was a must for the 6-foot-1 senior. Hawaii recruited her for basketball only.
All eight baseball signees at the event are going away to play. Saint Louis pitcher Jordan Yamamoto signed with his dream school, Arizona. Punahou ace Dylan Combs wore his crimson Harvard cap, while teammates Beau Branton (Stanford) and K.J. Harrison (Oregon State) wore their new colors. Along with ‘Iolani’s Christian Donahue, Oregon State scooped three local prospects today.
Waipahu ace Dylan Sugimoto inked his paperwork to play for San Jose State.
