High school post-season exhibition basketball games are loaded up for this President’s Day weekend.
On Saturday, the Damien Farias Senior Basketball Classic will tip off at 7 p.m. Seniors from across the state fill out the Team Red and Team Blue rosters. Admission is $5.
Coached by Dan Hale (Saint Louis) and Brandon Dumlao (Moanalua), Team Red is loaded with scoring guards Mizah Carreira and Malik Johnson of Campbell, Zelston Militante (Leilehua), Skylar Miyasato (Moanalua) and Justin Yap (Maryknoll), and Leonard Ah You (Kahuku), Casey Lyons (‘Iolani), Creighton Ofsonka (Mililani), Seth Harmon (Kaiser) and Po‘okela AIu (Kamehameha-Maui).
Team Blue, guided by Wyatt Tau (Campbell) and Kelly Grant (Maryknoll), has a powerful blend of playmakers and lockdown defenders: Jayden Kipapa (Mililani), Jonny Philbrick (Kailua), Brock Fonoimoana (Kahuku), Mikey Questin (Kapaa), Rondell Blenman-Villarreal (Campbell), Akila Indalecio (‘Iolani), Pule Atualevao (Leilehua), Fabian Camacho (Maryknoll), Kayman Lewis (Roosevelt) and Avery Pauole (Baldwin).
On Sunday and Monday, the Mufi Hannemann Jamboree makes its return after a two-year absence. The 29th edition has moved to ‘Iolani School. On Sunday, the 15-under and 13-under divisions will have a one-day tournament beginning at 2:30 p.m.
On Monday, the 17U (varsity-level) tourney will tip off at 9 a.m. The 17U division includes coaches Jazmine Corpuz (Campbell), Shawna Kuehu (Hawaii Prep), Pua Straight (Kamehameha) and Mandy Llamedo (Kailua). Players from across the state, including Mele Sake, Paige Oh and Haylie-Anne Ohta of state champion ‘Iolani, fill out the four team rosters.
Admission on both days of the Jamboree is free.
