‘Iolani and Konawaena dominated the all-tournament selections at the Heide & Cook/HHSAA Girls Basketball Division I State Championships.
Raider senior Jovi Lefotu was voted most outstanding player. Against Maui, the versatile floor leader had 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, 15 rebounds, two assists and two steals. In a semifinal win over Campbell, Lefotu had 16 points (5-for-12 from the field), eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
In the championship game against Konawaena, Lefotu had 14 points, shooting 3-for-8 from the field and 8-for-12 from the free-throw line. She grabbed eight boards, had two assists and two steals as the Raiders prevailed, 28-17, for their third state title in a row.
Also on the all-tournament team: Kaliana Salazar-Harrell, Kayla Pak and Braelyn Kauhi of Konawaena; Jaety Mandaquit and Abby Tanaka of ‘Iolani.
Salazar-Harrell was especially productive with 24 points and three steals in a quarterfinal win over Mililani, and 27 points and three steals in a semifinal win over Lahainaluna. She suffered a knee injury just before halftime of the championship game with ‘Iolani.
In Division II, Joey Lin of Hawaii Baptist was voted most outstanding player. Playing four games in four nights, played stronger as the tournament went deeper. She had four points (1-for-3 from the field, 2-for-2 at the foul line) with two rebounds and one assist against Pearl City.
In a 34-29 win over Kauai, Lin had 12 points and eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, along with two steals.
Lin stepped up again in a semifinal win over Hanalani with 12 points (6-for-9 from the field), nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
In the title tilt, Lin led HBA with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 41-28 win over Sacred Hearts. She shot 3-for-6 from the field and 6-for-10 from the charity stripe despite injuring an ankle twice during the game. He also had two steals and a block in another sterling all-around effort.
Joining Lin on the D-II all-tournament squad: Emi Wada, Careah Baitlon and Hayley Taka of HBA; KalysaMarie Ng of Sacred Hearts and Meleani Sjostrand of Seabury Hall.
