Saint Louis collected all 10 first-place votes to stand atop the Star-Advertiser football Top 10 on Monday.
The Crusaders opened the season with a 42-21 loss to nationally-ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) on Friday. Coaches and media remained bullish on the four-time defending state champions in the Open Division.
Saint Louis has won its last 35 games in Hawaii dating back to 2016. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Saint Louis are Mililani, Kahuku, Punahou and Campbell.
Kamehameha, Kapolei, ‘Iolani, Leilehua and Farrington round out the Top 10. Hilo (12 points) finished just three points behind Farrington in the balloting. Lahainaluna (10) and Moanalua (eight) weren’t far behind.
Also receiving votes are Roosevelt (four), Waianae (four), Kapaa (two) and Waipahu (one).
The ILH football season kicks off on Friday with three games. Damien travels to ‘Iolani, while Pac-Five and Saint Louis II meet at Aloha Stadium. Kamehameha and Punahou meet on the back end of the stadium doubleheader. Saint Louis has a bye.

Is the ILH going to be allowed to start this week, with Mayor’s new restrictions…?
Paul Honda. Is ILH going to play football this week?
I’ve been yet to be told otherwise.
If the powers that be were going to stop ILH football, they had their chance during the mayor’s press conference this morning. But they’re continuing to allow youth sports with no spectators allowed to gather in groups. The same approach goes for ILH fall sports, with a stricter requirement regarding spectators.
Until we have kickoff on Friday, though, I would never say we’re out of the woods. I half-expected some kind of drastic measure sometime this week. One thing is certain: this is a huge weekend for ILH fall sports. If everyone from players to coaches to trainers to staffers does his/her part, they’ll have success. As Chris Blake said a year ago, it’s crucial that everyone involved keeps their social circle small.
wth is kale at mckinnley?

Surprised me that games to be held at Aloha Stadium. I thought we were pau with that place.
Mayor said only ticketed sporting events are on hold. High school is not considered ticketed due to no spectators. Let the games begin.
Campbell at #5 is surprising.
