If timing is everything, it just wasn’t the right time for Chanelle Molina.
The Indiana Fever waived the former Konawaena and Washington State standout on Monday, ending her brief time with the WNBA franchise. An ankle injury derailed her attempt to make the Fever roster. Molina was in a training camp contract, still not 100 percent after injuring her right ankle during the Swedish Basketball League season.
Then she reinjured the ankle last week during a Fever workout. With the WNBA season opener just over two weeks ago, the team evaluated the situation and moved on.
“I’m good. Just relaxing and resting. Everything happens for a reason. I’ll come back stronger than ever,” Molina said on Wednesday.
Molina is going to take her time with the rehab process.
“It’ll take awhile to heal since I’ve been pushing it for awhile,” she said.
She is already back in the islands.
“I’ll be here for a month or so, then back to training hard for overseas next season,” Molina said. “It’s nice to be home and be with family and friends, get my mind off everything.”
In 19 games with the Norrköping Dolphins during the winter, Molina averaged 15.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
