It’s not quite the end-all yet, but the 46-page “Return To Learn” guide produced by the Hawaii Department of Education provides details and layers — phases — for a return to the classrooms and fields for high school student-athletes.
As of today (Monday), pubic-school baseball and softball coaches are expecting to start conditioning workouts on Mar. 29, though it is not written in stone. Oahu is in Tier 3 and could ramp up to Tier 4 by Mar. 25, according to Mayor Rick Blangiardi, if COVID-19 numbers continue to decline and Gov. David Ige approves.
Administrators and coaches of spring sports are expected to meet this week. A return to public high school campuses could happen after spring break (Mar. 15-19), according to one coach. Baseball and softball coaches believe conditioning workouts may begin on Mar. 29.

Sucks no football that’s why my son stay in Vegas over hea suck IGE gotta go
Watch the mad scramble for schools to get students back on campus now that sports are a possibility.
Will the schools that still have little to no in-person classes have teachers willing to return to campus??
ILoveHawaii, you ask the million dollar question. The teachers union keeps saying that schools are not safe and so they should not be on campus is the main reason why sports is not happening at public schools.
My feeling is that the teachers who do not coach and who don’t give a (bleep) about sports will continue to fight to stay at home (cruising?), and make sports disappear for the whole school year at public schools.
What are you talking about? Are you sure you didn’t delete your own comment(s)?
What Teachers are staying home and cruising? What school and grade to be exact? If you’re going to say something like that, be specific and put that piece of crap on blast! If not, it sounds like you’re accusing the 14k + educators of doing just that!
California was one of the last states to bring back sports and our numbers are way lower than them. To play ball in CA its 14.0 for every 100K–we have about a million people on O’ahu and we have to be basically be at 2.0 (20 or less) for every 100K. The DOE, HSTA, etc. need to stop slowing gaming this thing and get kids back in school and at least save a spring season for them.
