As Halloween nears, Chanelle Molina is still up to tricks and treats on the hardwood in faraway Scandinavia.
The former Konawaena and Washington State standout poured in 17 points with six rebounds and four assists as Norrköping Dolphins routed Wetterbygden 83-67 on Saturday. Erika Davenport had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Camille Zimmerman tallied 17 points.
The Dolphins improved to 3-1 in the Swedish Basketball League standings. They are tied with IK Eos, trailing Alvik (4-0).
“I feel like we were supposed to be 4-0, but I feel that we’re a serious contender and that we can go very far in this league,” Molina said on Sunday.
Norrköping battles IK Eos this Saturday. IK Eos play in Lund, a four-hour, 40-minute commute, 277 miles south near the border with Denmark.
After a season-opening 72-65 loss on the road to Hogsbo, the Dolphins have averaged 81.7 points per game in wins over Lulea, Uppsala and Wetterbygden. They limited the Sparks of Wetterbygden to 33-percent field goal shooting.
“It’s super fun playing fast-paced because it creates easy buckets for everyone,” said Molina, who leads the Dolphins in scoring at 21.8 points per game.
Molina ranks seventh in the league in scoring. Davenport is fourth in rebounding (10.5 per game). Guard Lovisa Hjern is fifth in assists (6.5) and sixth in steals (2.8).
Molina is a big fan of vampire shows, but Halloween is modest in Sweden.
“I’m surprised that Halloween isn’t really that big over here. They celebrate it, but they don’t go all out with the decorations,” she said. “Me and some of our teammates are actually going to carve some pumpkins today.”
