ON THIS DATE (1974): Roosevelt’s Wayne Jandoc hauls in 98-yard TD pass

Wayne Jandoc, left, was a standout football and basketball player for Roosevelt.

On this date in 1974, Junior Doi hit Wayne Jandoc for a 98-yard touchdown pass and Roosevelt beat Kaiser 23-12.

Doi threw a bomb from his end zone on third down with 10 seconds left and Jandoc corralled it on the 36 and outran two Cougars to the end zone. The score gave Roosevelt a 14-0 lead but Kaiser closed it to 17-12 before Wayde Au Young recovered a fumble and took it to the house to seal the victory.

Doi missed the previous season with an injury but didn’t miss a beat. The win over Kaiser made Roosevelt 4-0 and the Rough Riders finished 9-2 with their lone losses coming to East powers Farrington (18-2) and Kahuku (32-17).
