ON THIS DATE: Alex Daniels becomes Radford’s rushing leader

On this date in 2005, Alex Daniels had the biggest day for a running back in Radford history, but he still needed his defense’s help to keep the Rams unbeaten.

Daniels ran for 263 yards and three touchdowns to lead Radford to a 35-13 victory over Moanalua at John Velasco Stadium.

The game was a matchup of unbeaten rivals, and wasn’t over until Radford linebacker Bronson Leafa sealed it with a pick-six midway through the fourth quarter. Daniels broke the plane for the last time with 2:25 left.

Radford and Moanalua met for the OIA Division II title a month later, and Daniels covered 151 yards in a tight 9-7 victory. Radford went on to beat Kamehameha-Maui in states but lost to Iolani in the title game despite Daniels rushing for 138 yards.

Daniels broke the school record of 234 yards held by Ricardo Williams against Nanakuli in 1991.
