Utah State is taking the plunge for Tausili Akana.
The Aggies made a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore from Kamehameha. Akana has spent this fall season playing for Wasatch in Utah, just a two-hour drive from the USU campus.
The defensive end/outside linebacker now has seven offers. Utah State is only the third from a Mountain West Conference program. Hawaii was the first school to offer him. UNLV offered in late August.
“I haven’t been to Logan, but I’ve heard some good things about the campus and city,”
Former Punahou lineman Hale Motu‘apuaka is a sophomore on the Aggies roster this year.
The rest of Akana’s offers are from independent BYU and the Pac-12 Conference: Utah, Arizona State and Oregon State.
Akana has been a force for Wasatch since transferring from Kamehameha in the summer. In the Wasps’ win over Spanish Fork on Friday, he racked up six solo tackles (10 total), including two sacks. He has four blocked kicks this season for Wasatch, which is No. 4 in Utah’s 5A RPI rankings.
“That last game was a tough one. They were a physical and strong team. It was close. Our defense played well,” Akana said. “A good win for us.”
He still plans to return to Kamehameha after the fall semester, though he will be ineligible to play football for the Warriors this academic year. The Hawaii high school football season is expected to begin in early 2021.
“I’m not really homesick as school and football keep me very busy. It’s also great to be with my family in Utah,” Akana said. “Of course, I do miss my family, friends and food back home.”

How does kam allow kids to dip out and come back as they please for athletics? Dont they have hundreds of kids on waiting lists for these spots? I can see people not being happy with this.
If you’re a good athlete, Kamehameha will always make exceptions! While other deserving Hawaiian Keiki get denied entry.
