(Update: Oregon State offered Kapoi a scholarship on Thursday. He now has 10 offers.)
Southern Utah and Washington State are the most recent schools to come chasing junior La‘akea Kapoi.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive lineman from Saint Louis received the offer from SUU on Tuesday and the Wazzu offer on Wednesday.
SUU is where former former Crusader Anthony Arceneaux is an assistant coach. The Thunderbirds play in the Big Sky Conference.
“Coach Arceneaux is a cool coach and just him being a graduate from Saint Louis School just made the conversation a lot comfortable for me,” Kapoi said on Wednesday. “The brotherhood is real!”
Washington State, where former Hawaii coach Nick Rolovich resides, is the second Pac-12 offer for Kapoi.
“I can see myself playing at Washington State because I made a lot of great connections with the majority of the coaches on that staff and I like how they have the same kind of offensive set-up as Saint Louis,” he added. “Overall, great conversations with both coaches.”
Kapoi now has nine scholarship offers on the table. He has a 3.5 grade-point average.
“Shout out to my offensive line boys, Coach Rob (Crowell), Coach (James) Hall, Coach (Brian) Derby, Coach Faipea Ava,” he said. “And shout out to my large family.”

Kid is overrated! Has one pancake in his whole highlights and the rest are basic pass protection plays. Needs to play lower and with more aggression to be able to survive in college.
I’m sure he will continue to improve. Between now, the start of his junior year, and the start of his freshman year of college, there will be more work. He and his coaches will make sure of that, I’m guessing. Coach Derby doesn’t tolerate a single mistake, from what I’ve seen up close.
@#1, Pretty harsh on a 16 y/o teenager!
Overrated or not this kid has a choice to pick his 9 different DI college’s for FREE!
By the time he graduates he will have over 20 offers.
Kapoi has great feet, good hands and will continue to improve because he is a hard worker.
#1 OL in Hawaii for 2022. Nuff said.
@ Hawaii Scouts… Pretty sure that’s 9 more offers than you ever had lol and many more sure to come! Let’s keep the bashing to the teams and coaches, not these teenagers who work their tail off day in and day out to represent their families and the 808!
@ Hawai’i Scouts…unreal. Like ??? said harsh words for a 16 year old. Btw he’s faced some of the best completion you can find, especially at practice. I bet these college coaches have better judgement on OL talent than you. So shame…we need to lift our kids up. Be better Hawai’i Scouts..
@Hawaii Scouts… It would be awesome but you don’t have to pancake someone on every block! Daah!! Btw St.Louis is a passing team. You probably got pancaked and was done for the year. Kid is still raw and is only gonna get better! 808vsEverybody!
what is biting hawaii scouts’ butt?
Wow a little harsh on the young man huh Scout? Sound like a disgruntled parent SMFH
Probably a deep case of the Coronavirus Lockdown blues.
Exactly my thoughts, Trustno1. If you’re trying to pancake in pass pro, your position coach will chew you out good.
