APRIL 12, 1955: Tiny Pahala takes the big stage

On this day in 1955, the big stage didn’t faze the tiny Pahala baseball team.

Pahala traveled to Honolulu Stadium over Easter break to take on three ILH teams before hitting Maui on the way back for two more games.

The Trojans raised more than a few eyebrows in Honolulu, beating Saint Louis 10-1 behind Andres Deperino‘s pitching and the hitting of Felimon Sesson. Sesson hit a ball halfway up the centerfield bleachers.

Pahala beat Mid-Pacific 6-5 the next day but closed the series with a 6-2 loss to Kaimuki despite being tied in the eighth inning. Pahala avenged the loss later in the month when the Bulldogs traveled to the Big Island and lost 3-2. Pahala beat Kamehameha the week before.

For all of its preseason heroics, Pahala fell short of the BIIF title with a 10-2 loss to Konawaena in the semifinals of the league tournament.
