On this date in 1991, the Pearl City baseball team overcame a three-run deficit to beat Mililani 6-3 to win the OIA West with a perfect 10-0 record.
Brent Furuyama won his fourth game of the season by allowing seven hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Chad Oshiro and Chance Sing Chow paired hits and John Aiken drove in two runs, one of them on four pitches on a bases-loaded walk to force Frank Baumholtz across the plate.
The Chargers ran their winning streak to 12-0 before Waianae hammered them 9-0. The Chargers gained their revenge on the Seasiders with a 4-1 win two days later to take the OIA West title and then rolled through the OIA playoffs to take that crown as well.
Pearl City didn’t lose again until the state semifinals, where they were the top overall seed but lost to Waianae again, this time 4-3 at Aloha Stadium.

>> Tyler Kimura allowed two hits in a seven-inning shutout and Kaimuki beat Castle 3-0. The Bulldogs won despite collecting only one hit and not scoring a run until the sixth inning when Knights starter Mark Tumminello left the game.
>> Kaiser scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and Joe Miyamoto threw a scoreless bottom of the inning as Kaiser came back to beat Farrington 7-5. Mark Stillwell had the telling blow with a two-run double in the seventh and Warren Matsuda, Josh Halemalu and Chuck Lederer all paired hits for the Cougars. Chad Nakamoto went 3-for-3 for the Governors, who chased Kaiser starter Reef Migita in the first inning.
>> Chris Garnett pitched a one-hitter over six innings and Mid-Pacific pounded Punahou 10-0 at Iolani Field. Donny Kadokawa led the way with a home run for the Owls and Chad Sekiya and Greg Yasutake joined him by pairing hits. Ross Yoshimura drove in three runs with a double.
>> Paul Ah Yat connected on three hits and shut down Saint Louis in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings as Iolani beat the Crusaders 10-6 in extra innings. Todd Okazaki also had three hits for the Raiders, who scored four runs off Sean Castro and Calvin Lai in the ninth.
>> Chris Schutter, Scott Kawamura, Dwight Sekioka, Davin Muranaka and Reid Kameoka all took the mound as Pac-Five beat Damien 11-8 in a high-scoring affair.
>> Kaipo Spencer and Kalei Awai combined to allow two hits and St. Anthony beat Baldwin 2-1. George Hanawahine scored Baldwin’s lone run on a round-tripper in the sixth inning.
>> Maui scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Sabers beat Lahainaluna 8-7. Derek Akiona led Maui with three hits and three RBIs and Kyle Maddela contributed a home run.
>> Hilo beat Waiakea by matching 4-1 scores to sweep a doubleheader at Wong Stadium. Shon Malani won the first game by giving up six hits and Herman Medeiros did the same in the second game. Robert Medeiros caught all 14 innings for the Vikings. Hilo improved to 9-0 while Waiakea fell to 8-2.
