Kamehameha junior Shaye Story and Pac-Five sophomore Grace Monahan added to their collection of ILH swimming gold medals on Saturday at the league championships at Kamehameha.
Both swimmers have seven career golds and their prep careers aren’t close to being over yet.

Story won the 500 freestyle event for the third consecutive year and repeated in the 200 freestyle. She has also won two golds in the 200 medley relay, but did not compete in the event this year for the Warriors, who finished fourth.
Monahan successfully defended her crown in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly events and also won gold in the 200 freestyle relay as the Wolfpack held off Kamehameha by .27 seconds, denying Story an eighth ILH gold for the time being.
Le Jardin junior Alana Barthel was the only other girls swimmer to win two individual events, taking home golds in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle events.
Barthel is a three-time champion in the 100 backstroke and one of only three Le Jardin girls swimmers ever to win an individual ILH gold medal.
Punahou swept the team titles in both boys and girls. Sophomore Andrea Zeebe won the 100 breaststroke event and the Buffanblu won relay events in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle on the girls side.
Punahou junior Noah Peters won the 200 freestyle and James Lyon won the 500 freestyle on the boys side. The Buffanblu also won the 400 freestyle relay event.
Kamehameha senior Noa Copp took home three gold medals with victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. He also swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team.
Corbin Lofton became just the second Island Pacific Academy swimmer to win an ILH gold medal with a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.51 seconds, well ahead off Le Jardin’s Ethan Ravelo, who finished second at 53.40 seconds.

Thank you for covering High School Swimming! These kids work so hard and to be recognized is a nice reward.
I am disappointed that there was a need to highlight some kids over other ones. My son won the 100 backstroke – his first ILH win. His team mate won the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley (one of the hardest races in swimming). Also – Rose Garcia won the girls 50 freestyle for Pack 5. Not sure why they would not be included in the narrative while others are.
