The ILH regular season ended last week with ‘Iolani sweeping Kamehameha 25-22, 25-23, 25-19.
That knocked the Warriors out of a potential playoff match against Punahou to win their four-team quadrant and secure a state-tournament berth.
Now, the Warriors and Raiders are fighting for their lives in the ILH postseason tournament for the third and final state berth.
Kamehameha, which was tied with Punahou for the No. 1 ranking last week, drops to No. 3 with ‘Iolani rising to No. 2 in this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10.
Both teams are in survival mode as they need to win to advance in hopes of making the state tournament.
Kamehameha hosts Mid-Pacific tonight while ‘Iolani plays at Maryknoll. If the two teams win, they will play Tuesday in the tournament finale. One of the top three teams in the state will move on to the state tournament while the other will be done.
The Warriors have made the state tournament every year since 2001 and have been in the final every year since 2002, when Kahuku beat St. Joseph.
Moanalua (11-0), the No. 1 seed out of the East in the OIA playoffs, took over sole possession of No. 4 by a single vote over No. 5 Mililani (10-0), the No. 1 seed out of the West in the OIA playoffs.
The teams were tied for the No. 4 spot last week.
Kahuku (10-1) is No. 6 with Kamehameha-Hawaii (13-0) jumping one spot to No. 7 ahead of No. 8 Le Jardin (7-4).
Kapolei is No. 9 and King Kekaulike, which lost its first match of the season to Kamehameha-Maui last week, holds on to the No. 10 spot.
Damien received one vote.

So the #2 or #3 in the poll will not make the state tournament? And teams not even in the top 10 or 15 will?
@Ha?
Top 3 teams can recruit and all OIA teams can’t?
Sounds pretty fair to me..
False.
OIA teams can recruit.
FALSE ! OIA teams DO recruit.
One of the “big 3” teams being left out of states is the compromise they had to make to convince some of the small ILH schools to play D1. That is why Le Jardin is already qualified for D1 states but either Iolani or Kamehameha will be out.
Le Jardin could of easily stayed in D2 and won another state title but they moved up to help the ILH numbers. Unfortunately they don’t stand a chance against Punahou or Iolani or Kamehameha in D1 states. This was a true sacrifice for the league and will be interesting to see if they stay with it next year.
Iolani not making the State Tournament is a travesty . It’s definitely a tough one to swallow for the Raiders, as they are arguably the 3rd best team in the state. The OIA having 5 teams in the state tournament is absolutely ludicrous .
