RUSHING—Kahuku: Zealand Matagi 8-29, Lailo Kaluna 4-2, Jack Tito 3-1, Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu 7-9, Tiger Adolpho 5-(-20), Jason Mariteragi 1-6. Mililani: Malosi Sam 8-18, Brendyn Agbayani 2-(-17), Josiah Alcover 5-1, Arona Sagapolutele 2-12.
PASSING—Kahuku: Tiger Adolpho 6-19-0-59, Fonoimoana-Vaomu 1-1-0-(-6), Jason Mariteragi 2-3-0-13. Mililani: Agbayani 16-26-1-114, Sagapolutele 1-3-0-0.
RECEIVING—Kahuku: Kaonohi Kaniho 1-(-4), Micah Carvalho 1-16, Cole Pruett 3-42, Kade Nakaahiki-Bourgeois 1-(-6), Kaluna 1-3, Matagi 1-5, Elias Matagi-Magalei 1-10.
Mililani: Kanoa Gibson 2-4, Mystik Sampaga 3-46, Raysen Motoyama 1-5, Kai Banks 2-14, Sam 2-15, Pono Hookano 2-10, Ransen Motoyama 1-5, Nik Geraci 1-7, Koa Kalama 2-13, Alcover 1-0.
Navares having a superb night. His 38-yard field goal adds to the lead. Arona Sagapolutle took over the drive a few snaps in. MILILANI 32, KAHUKU 0, 2:25, Q4.
After a 28-yard Kahuku punt is fair caught at the Kahuku 35, a personal foul is assessed on the Red Raiders. Ball at the 19. Four plays later, Navares knocks a 35-yard field goal through the uprights. MILILANI 29, KAHUKU 0, 9:14, Q4.
The third period ends with Mililani at the Kahuku 34-yard line. Agbayani is still in the game, but Sam has been relieved by Jasiah Alcover.
Kahuku picks up a first down on a pass from Adolpho to Zealand Matagi, but punts back to the Trojans with 3:06 left in the third.
After the delay, Mililani has the ball at the Kahuku 14. First play of the series, Agbayani tosses a pass to Sam in the flat, and he dives over the left pylon for a 14-yard TD. MILILANI 26, KAHUKU 0, 8:28, Q3.
OK, officials have ejected Kahuku’s No. 90 (TJ Seguritan), 75 (Micah Soliai-Howlett) and 2 personal fouls for the stuff at the end of the play. Personal fouls assessed, and now the ball is at the Kahuku 14-yard line. Head coach Sterling Carvalho is lobbying hard with the head official in the white hat and both teams are on their sidelines. But I really didn’t hear a whistle, and though that doesn’t excuse any extra rough play, why wasn’t there a whistle?
Red Raiders have an effective, quick-pass heavy drive to start the second half. Then Adolpho is sacked by Hoohuli, loses the ball and it is bouncing toward the Kahuku sideline when Mililani LB Mark Pasternak recovers. He’s on the ground, gets up, and is tackled by Kahuku. I think, not 100 percent sure, that there was no whistle blown on the play, and you know players are taught to play through the whistle. Both teams are in a pile-up, Kahuku coaches trying to break up the scrum. No harm done, and officials are conferencing near mid-field. Bad break for Kahuku, but Hoohuli is almost unblockable. He got through like a blur, and if they rule that Adolpho was down on the sack before the fumble, it would still be a long 25-30 yards for a first down.
It has been a defensive struggle and the stats reflect it. Mililani is just so efficient at getting playmakers in space. The Trojans have 8 rushing yards, including 18 on eight carries by last week’s ballcarrying monster, Malosi Sam. Kahuku’s defense isn’t playing badly. Brendyn Agbayani is having a stellar night, 8-for-15, 59 yards, one TD and no turnovers. But that’s just 67 yards of total offense, and the key is Mililani is content to control the ball, the clock and play chess with field position. Kahuku has 48 rushing yards and a combined 22 passing yards between Tiger Adolpho and Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu. That’s 70 total yards, which is actually almost equal to Mililani. That Trojan TD on the fumble is HUGE.

Kahuku ball at its 20 with 1:01 left in the first half. 21-yard pass from Tiger Adolpho to Cole Pruett sparks the drive, and a personal foul by Mililani advances the ball to the Trojans’ 20. After an incomplete pass by Adolpho with :03 left, Adam Requilman attempts a 36-yard FG, but it lands short as the half ends.
Both teams do a quick warm-up on their respective sidelines. It’s been about 20 minutes since play stopped. Third and 5, Agbayani has Gibson open up the season, but underthrows the ball and it falls incomplete. Punt by Hoohuli bounces between the returners and is downed at the 20.
Ambulance is on the field and they have wheeled him on a stretcher into the vehicle. Alan Talanoa (#14) is a 5-11, 180-pound junior linebacker.
2:20 left in the first half when a Kahuku defensive player is injured after a run by Mililani. Player is down and not moving, trainers from both sides, and Kahuku coaches, are with him. They will be cautious and an ambulance is nearing the stadium.
Trojans get great field position, and five plays later, Kaulana Navares line-drives a 30-yard field goal over the crossbar. That’s two touchdowns, a safety and a field goal for the Trojans. Is this hitting for the cycle football style? MILILANI 19, KAHUKU 0, 4:57, Q2.
Kahuku goes to its goal-line package and goes three-and-out. Punt is a fair catch by Mililani at the Kahuku 35 with 6:31 left in the first half. Kahuku has 10 yards in total offense so far.
Trojan offense more methodical, stalls out at the Kahuku 40. Punt by Wynden Hoohuli is a beauty, a coffin-corner special that bounces out at the Kahuku 2.
The first quarter ends with Mililani in full control. All momentum is with the team in brown and gold right now. Kahuku has one first down in three possessions.
Trojans make their own break on punt coverage. Micah Kim forces a fumble, the ball bounces and gets kicked and ends up in the end zone, where Kiai Ramos recovers for Mililani. MILILANI 16, KAHUKU 0, 3:33, Q1.
Kanoa Gibson’s 41-yard return on the ensuing free kick sets up the Trojans at the Kahuku 30. They drive into the red zone, but a big personal foul penalty moves the ball back to the Kahuku 31. Then Brendyn Agbayani hangs in the pocket just long enough to get off a 31-yard touchdown strike to Mystik Sampaga on the post route. Trojans so explosive against a tough Red Raider defense. MILILANI 9, KAHUKU 0, 7:09, Q1.
Trojans’ opening series: they punt after going three and out. Kahuku then goes backwards with losses of 6 and 3 yards. Then Mililani’s Sonny Semeatu sacks Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu in the end zone for a safety. WOW. Crazy fast pass rush. MILILANI 2, KAHUKU 0, 8:24, Q1.
The coin toss is pau and Mililani wins, and will receive from the makai end zone (Meheula Parkway side). Conditions are cooler now, sun is down, light breeze. Temp is around 80 degrees compared to near 90 earlier.
UPDATE 7:05 p.m.

It’s says Mililani leads Kahuku 6-0, but final is Kahuku 6 Mil 0?
No 6-6 tie.
Hard to watch this game. No excuses, Mililani just bringing it.
Trojans doing to our Red Raiders what we used to do to everybody else.
Prayers for Kahuku player Talanoa 🙏🏼.
Prayers go out to Talanoa,I don’t like seeing our kids hurt. Word is Marshawn Lynch is on the sidelines with other pro players.
mililani coaches look like clowns with their hoodies and backward hats lol
Those clowns are out coaching the Kahuku coaches.
Yes they are… Like I said last week HC gotta go! Our kids deserve better
Did I hear correctly? That the head coach for Kahuku has his brother coaching the special teams. That should be a interesting ride home.
Failed RPO…Carvalho trying to play a style without having the right players again. Did he learn anything from last year?
Sterling needs to go back to the drawing board. Then smash it, stomp on it,throw it in the trash, then burn it, put it in the back of his truck and take it to the dump. What he’s been drawing up isn’t working.
Lucky thing the D is pretty good. The score could have been much more lopsided.
Out coached, Out played, Out hustled, Mililani deserves OUTBACK Steakhouse!
Transfer Trojans just gets by with more talent than the rest of the schools , not by OUT coaching anyone. Millikan should add Otai and Pangi popo to their menu, they would sell like crazy!!!
Kahuku doesn’t need a new HC. And Kahuku doesn’t need more players. Kahuku needs more DAWGS! Players that will give it their 110% EVERY PLAY. Mililani has more DAWGS than Kahuku and thats why they won. Every defensive play you’ll see ALL 11 swarm a runner, even on special teams! Hats off to Mililani way to play!
Tough game. Trojans gave Big Red a taste of there own medicine with outstanding D and special teams. Big Red O under Carvalho is terrible.
Back to work boys!!!
RRFL!!
What has happened to Kahuku football? It was devastating to watch a once proud program be outplayed. What happened to the power running game that they were known for? What happened to the punishing offensive line play they always had? Where is the HEART of these coaches and team? Never in the last 10 years has there been a Kahuku team that looked devastated. Yes, it’s only the second game if the season, but if they don’t dig deep and overcome their dilemma, it’s going to be a long season.
Kahuku NEXT coach up!!! Mililani keep it up but please keep Motoyama off the field he makes one mistake after another and keeps hurting the team!
For Kahuku, it looks like there is a disconnect between the HS and the youth programs. What drives Mililani is York’s involvement from the PeeWee programs all the way up the pipeline until they hit varsity. Same systems, same styles, similar plays. It took some time, but Mililani has arrived.
As for the recruiting, what ever these parents/kids wanna do to improve the futures’ of their own families, let it be. If you improve your own programs your kids will stay.
mililani is a poor mans st louis. all these transfer traders in sam, amina, semeatu, deblake, kim, hoohuli. what happen to playin for your hometown, no loyalty. should be called mililani crusaders/hurricanes
And Kahuku is washed up 😂 with transfers from Big Island, New Mexico and Utah. Should be called “Kahuku fans always salty like their AIR” hahaha making up all these excuses just face it we suck this year.
Stop calling out kids and mentioning their names in a negative tone. Leave the players alone. Blame coaches all day, everyday, that’s part of the territory. Grow up. Give cracks, take cracks, recover, and MOVE FORWARD.
this was really all part of the ILH and cal lee’s master plan tbh. when you keep recruiting and recruiting, it’s only a matter of time until a community reaches a breaking point. it happened to the once proud mckinley football program, and now it’s happening to us. kahuku always ALWAYS ALWAYS plays the right way with integrity, home grown rooted not recruited players, with kids that are proud to play with pride for their communities and parents who are RRFL who dont’ chase private school scholarship money.
it hurts me to say this but seems like kahuku is gonna have to join in on the recruiting game too because of what the ILH did to hawaii high school football. i dont’ hate on rod york for doing what he needs to do to win. maybe we gotta do that too
Mililani Crusaders?
Has a nice ring to it.
York gotta go.
What kind of leader does what he did?
3 phases of the game. 2 of the phases where BiG Red is seriously in trouble this year are coached by Carvalho’s. Kahuku has traditionally been Awesomen in special teams, except this year and last year. But besides that, the kids on the oline have no heart. Mililani has great players on D, but for Big Red oline to suck that bad??? No heart, no communication and obviously, no discipline. 3 awesome oline coaches, but these kids feel entitled. To put it bluntly, not enough “balls” on the line. You guys still in high school, but football is and has always been a sport for people with spines and grit. You think it gets easier after graduating? This is a part of real life. MAN UP, learn and grow and get better, or blow everything off and continue to get your butts kicked.
RRFL!!!
I dont like york, but much props for building his program to this point. And props to Mililani admin for allowing York to do what he does…hopefully he’s not stepping on other peoples toes to do it, but when it comes to big time football programs, that tends to happen.
And to my fellow RRFL, enough with the recruiting!! We’ve been Really successful regardless of how many kids transfer. For that, we should be grateful to the kids who stay. No other Hawaii public school has been able to maintain our level of success while losing kids. Think of how Waianae or Farrington would be awesome if they were able to keep all their kids.
RRFL!!!
Don’t understand the meanness, because its STL and then everybody else.
@ Rusty…ain’t that the Truth. Cal Lee has got it going again. It sucks for the rest of us, but it is what it is.
RRFL!!
