Miami right-hander Jordan Yamamoto shook off an ugly first inning and managed to give the Marlins five innings of two-hit ball to earn the win in a 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
The Saint Louis School alumnus, who tossed seven shutout innings in each of his first two MLB starts, walked the first three batters of the game and gave up a two-run single to Jean Segura to fall behind 2-1.
From then on, Yamamoto was sharp, retiring 14 of 16 batters he faced after the Segura single. He finished the game allowing two runs on two hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in five innings.
Yamamoto punctuated his outing with back-to-back strikeouts to end the fifth inning. He threw 56 of his 99 pitches for strikes.
Yamamoto is now 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings and has allowed just seven hits with 19 strikeouts.
His next start will likely be Saturday at home against the Phillies.
