Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Chenoa Frederick is the Gatorade Hawaii girls track and field athlete of the year, the Gatorade Company announced today.
The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track.
Frederick, a 5-foot-6 junior, won four individual events at the state championships in May. The state’s returning Gatorade Hawaii winner, she broke the tape in the 100-meter dash first in 12.56 seconds. She also won the triple jump (38 feet, 7 inches), the long jump (18-2.75) and high jump (5-1).
A soccer standout as well, Frederick has served as a peer mentor in her school.
“Chenoa has God-given talent, but she’s also mentally tough,” Kamehameha-Hawaii coach Manly Kanoa said in a news release. “She has a fierce competitive drive. She knows when it’s game time and she just hates to lose.”
Frederick has maintained a 3.05 GPA in the classroom, according to the release.
