A huge change will be in the offing if the Hawaii High School Athletic Directors Association adopts a proposal submitted by the HHSAA that would drastically change the seeding criteria that has been used through the years for state tournaments in volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball.
The annual HIADA meeting is June 4-6 at the Kauai Marriott Resort in Lihue.
As of now the HHSAA determines its seeding on votes by the sport coordinators from all five leagues.
Instead, the HHSAA is asking to switch to the following procedure:
>> A defending state champ that goes undefeated and/or has only one loss in league play.
>> State runner-up that goes undefeated in league play.
>> Average poll position in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and ScoringLive.com polls after all of the league’s playoffs.
>> Vote by seeding committee if the above three are inapplicable.
It,s a shame that marred by politics, seedings for state tournaments have always been a farce.
