For nine weeks of polling, coaches and media held Baldwin to the highest of highs in the Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10.
It all transformed at the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State championships, when Punahou dominated and Baldwin fell. Punahou eliminated Kaiser and Hilo before defeating OIA champion Mililani in the state final to capture its first crown since 2010.
Baldwin rallied past Waiakea in the quarterfinals, but fell to Mililani in the semifinals. For the first time since 2015, a team outside the Maui Interscholastic League finished at No. 1.
Kaiser finished the season in the Top 10 for the first time, landing at No. 7. Division II state champion St. Francis arrived at No. 9.
