Seabury Hall’s Chloe Gangnath doubled up with victories in the 800-meter dash and the 1500 in the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.
Gangnath’s time of 4 minutes, 46.65 seconds in the 1500 hit the top of the charts in Hawaii this season. She also ran 2:20.71 to capture the 800.
“I felt really ready,” Gangnath said. “The energy was really good today. I’ve been preparing all season with my coaches for this. I’m just so shocked and so grateful to have the opportunity to come out here and do this, to run with all these great girls.”
MOKU BEATS CADIZ AGAIN
Kamehameha’s Tanner Moku, who won the 110 hurdles earlier, came through with a victory in the 300 hurdles. He ran a 38.72, not quite as good as his trials effort of 38.07 or his ILH championship run of 37.99.
Radford’s Michael Edwards was second in the 300 in 39.05, followed by Cadiz in third in 39.29.
Moku dethroned Cadiz as state champion in both the 110 and 300.
LEOPARD ALSO DOUBLES UP
Campbell’s Leilani Leopard (45.72) added the 300 hurdles victory to her 100 hurdles win earlier.
In the 300, Radford’s Naomi Bates led most of the way, but fell on the final hurdle, and Leopard had to avoid running into Bates before crossing the finish line.
The following athletes came through with victories:
>> Kamehameha’s Kawika Clemente with a leap of 21 feet, 11.50 in the boys long jump.
>> Kaiser’s Nicholas Georgia in 2:00.27 in the boys 800 meters.
>> Punahou’s Justin Pu’u-Robinson in 50.82 in the boys 400.
>> Punahou’s Kaila Ronquilio in 58.52 in the girls 400. That 58.52 is the best in Hawaii in 2019.
>> Mid-Pacific’s Amy Warrington in 26.03 in the girls 200.
>> The Punahou girls 4×100 relay team of Stevie Marvin, Grace Blanchette, Kaylie Klausing and Katie Weeshoff in 50.15.
>> The Saint Louis boys 4×100 relay team of Roman Wilson (the 100-meter champ), Keanu Wallace, Korvin Feagins (the high jump champ), and Keola Yadao in 42.76. That squad set the state-meet record in the trials on Friday in 41.54.
