Moanalua’s Noah Wusstig, Leilehua’s Kelani Corbett pile up the hardware

Two Hawaii athletes are rising in the ranks of the most accomplished in the “combat” sports of wrestling and judo.

Moanalua’s Noah Wusstig and Leilehua’s Kelani Corbett are already among those who have numerous state titles in both or either of the sports and can add to their haul of hardware in the upcoming Atlas Insurance Agency/HHSAA Judo State Championships, which will be held May 4 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Wusstig, who captured a third OIA judo championship last Saturday, has two state wrestling championships and three state judo crowns and can get to a total of six this Saturday.

The all-time leader is Mid-Pacific’s Josh Terao with eight.

A four-time wrestling state champion, Corbett earned her first OIA judo championship last Saturday. A fifth “combat” sports state title this Saturday would be a nice addition in her trophy case.

Kamehameha’s Bree Rapoza and Punahou’s Chrissy Chow and Mindy Chow are the all-time leaders on the girls side with seven.
