A nine-game winning streak has Punahou tied for the lead in the ILH — for now — and ranked No. 2 in this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10.
The good news might not last long however as the Buffanblu host ILH co-leader ‘Iolani this afternoon with the winner taking over sole possession of first place.
The Buffanblu began the year No. 1 after an impressive preseason run, but began league play with losses to Maryknoll and Mid-Pacific. A 9-3 win over ‘Iolani on March 7 was the second victory of the Buffanblu’s current winning streak and seemed to have turn things around.
Punahou moved up five spots this week with wins over Maryknoll, Mid-Pacific and Damien.
The Raiders, who have won five in a row, are ranked No. 4 this week.
Campbell received eight first-place votes and is No. 1 for the fifth straight week. That’s the longest run for a team at No. 1 since the Sabers held that spot for 10 straight weeks from 2015-16.
Campbell has been ranked No. 1 at least once in five consecutive seasons.
OIA East-leading Roosevelt remained at No. 3 for the third consecutive week while defending state champion Leilehua made a big climb this week — up five spots to No. 5.
The Mules are another team starting to put it together with four straight wins over opening league play 2-3 in their first five. Leilehua beat then-No. 8 Mililani 6-4 on Wednesday and knocked off then-No. 2 Waianae 8-1 on Saturday.
The Seariders fell five spots all the way to No. 7 with the loss to the Mules, falling behind No. 6 Mid-Pacific.
St. Francis jumped up a spot to No. 8 with the Spartans and Trojans tied for No. 9.
Waiakea was just four spots out of the tie for ninth with 17 votes. Kamehameha-Hawaii (nine), Kapaa (eight), Lahainaluna (three), Baldwin (one) and Pearl City (one) also received votes.
