Three different ‘Iolani players scored in the first 18 minutes to lead the host Raiders to a 4-0 win over Kaiser in the opening round of the Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships this afternoon.
Lincoln Oishi added a second goal in the 48th minute and Jacob Lee and Brendan Parke also netted goals for ‘Iolani (11-2-1), which is in the quarterfinals for the third straight year.
The Raiders will play defending co-state champion and No. 1 seed Hawaii Prep on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Cougars were shut out for the second straight game and finished the season 10-4 after starting the year 8-0.
Pearl City 2, Baldwin 1 (PKs)
Kainoa Wong scored in the 11th minute and the Chargers won a shootout, 5-3, to eliminate the defending co-state champion Bears.
Malu Plunkett scored the equalizer for Baldwin in the 61st minute.
The Chargers advance to play OIA champion Kapolei in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes shut out the Chargers 3-0 in the regular season on Dec. 27.
Kalani 1, Hilo 0
Minjae Kim was the lone goal scorer to power the Falcons past the Vikings into the state quarterfinals.
Kalani, the 2013 D-I champion which is playing in its seventh straight state tournament, won a winner’s bracket game for the first time in three years.
The Falcons will play ILH champion Punahou in the fourth quarterfinal on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Buffanblu shut out Kalani 2-0 in the first round in 2017 in the first meeting between the two schools at states since the Falcons won a shootout to win the ’13 state title.
Mililani 4, Campbell 0
Ayden Lawes scored two goals to lead the Trojans (13-1), who own the longest active streak of playing in the state tournament at 12 in a row.
Jacob Prothero and Jvon Cunningham added the other goals for Mililani, which bounced back from its first loss of the season, 3-0 to Kapolei in the OIA title game.
The Trojans advance to play MIL champion King Kekaulike on Thursday at 1 p.m. The two teams have never played each other at states.
