Farrington boys basketball coach Steven Leopoldo remains sidelined, temporarily removed as head coach as the school administration investigates complaints filed by parents, according to two parents who did not want to be identified.
Leopoldo was contacted by the Star-Advertiser, but declined to comment. Farrington athletic director Harold Tanaka and principal Alfred Carganilla did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
Leopoldo’s squad had just lost its first game, at Kaiser, in the Oahu Interscholastic Association East season after seven wins before he was suspended. The Governors then lost to Roosevelt in a road game without their head coach before defeating Castle on Tuesday on senior night.
Farrington plays at Kalani tonight in a regular-season finale. It is unclear if Leopoldo will return to the bench.
Leopoldo’s son, JV head coach Bryson Tatupu-Leopoldo, is the interim head coach.
Leopoldo, a longtime coach in the boys and girls programs after a storied career as a player for Farrington, took over the boys varsity position in 2015 after Allan Silva stepped down.
The Governors are 13-8 overall, 8-2 in league play and were ranked as high as No. 5 in the Star-Advertiser Top 10. The senior-heavy lineup is led by Raefe McEnroe (15 points per game in OIA East play) and Aaron Bagaoisan (11 ppg). The Governors have clinched the top seed from the East for the upcoming OIA D-II playoffs.

If there was ANY truth to these so-called complaints, he and his coaching staff would’ve been gone a while ago. It’s sad that this article was even published without fact-checking first. This ONE-SIDED story is from ONE parent who doesn’t want to be identified. You can harass the coach season after season AFTER SEASON, but you don’t want to be identified?! That’s what happens when there’s no truth to your BS. Your selfish acts have been a plague for this team from day 1, and the only reason why you’re mad is because this coaching staff put their foot down and didn’t let you run things like how you had been doing with the coaching staff(s) before. You claim to do things for the athletes but you’re so quick to hold things over their heads when they don’t do things you want them to do. You didn’t get your way again, or needed to CONVINCE people of your so-called truth , so you decided to have someone write an article, not knowing that your selfish act would put these athletes, including your own athletes, in awkward and negative situations that they don’t deserve to be put in. Just remember that this is what YOU asked for, not them. These athletes need to work as a team but it’s hard when you’re working overtime spreading lies and negative vibes. Get over yourself and let the coaches coach and players play!
