Can Mililani keep this offensive pace all year?

By Paul Honda on August 17, 2014

You’d have to play Madden or NCAA 14, load up your lineup with All-Pros (or All-Americans) and go no-huddle (sometimes hurry up) all game long to rack up crazy numbers like this. Yes, the scoreboard at John Kauinana Stadium binged and banged like a pinball machine on Saturday night. For both Mililani and Saint Louis. Keeping stats would’ve been much simpler if the UH statistics crew (with all their fancy machinery) would’ve been there. Instead, it was left to this […]

Players all smiles as Lee Bros. grind away

By Paul Honda on August 2, 2014

Cal Lee and Ron Lee are back at it on the hill at Kalaepohaku. Just hours after a scrimmage with big, talented Kapolei, they were on the field again. Ron, the offensive coordinator, was there by 7 a.m., studying film from the scrimmage. Cal was there on the field just a little while later. By the time they were done with practice around 6 p.m. — with a certain Heisman Trophy candidate working out with the varsity — they were […]

Update: Kamehameha 34, Saint Louis 28, Final

By Paul Honda on October 19, 2013

Kamehameha RB Brandon Kahookele is out. He’s wearing a knee brace and not dressed for the game. I’m told he will have his left knee looked at (MRI) later. Could be a huge loss for the Warriors. First quarter A huge pass play from Ryder Kuhns to Devan Stubblefield put the Crusaders in the red zone. Adam Noga scored on a short run off right tackle. Saint Louis 7, Kamehameha 0. 5:36 – T.J. Fitzsimmons drills a 41-yard field goal […]

Top Players: QBs 8/21

By Paul Honda on August 21, 2013

I used to post updates (last year) every two weeks or so, with all positions in one post. Not anymore. Better to get as much data as possible and be deliberate. It’s tough enough with positions that have statistics available. When it gets to linemen, that turns more into art than science and I look for expert guidance. For now, a look at quarterbacks. I went on and on about the top QBs in the preseason top prospects list that […]

Top Players 10/3

By Paul Honda on October 3, 2012

It’s been nearly two weeks since the last installation of Top Players. It’s been an intriguing season with many ups and downs, adjustments from week to week, play to play. More and more, the best players are proving that their plays contribute to success. But there are many players who are among the best even if their teams are not having great success. As always, your input is welcome. The more eyes, the better. Update, Thursday: Adds Kala Ikeda, Konawaena, […]
