The HHSAA Hall of Honor will induct its newest class on Sunday at the Ala Moana Hotel, bringing the number athletes immortalized to 384, with 230 boys and 154 girls inducted. This is the fourth time an equal number of boys and girls were inducted and girls have outnumbered boys since 2007.
There have been 51 different schools represented over the years now that Hanalani joined the party with Sarah Liva going in. The OIA leads the way with 20 as the largest league in the land. The ILH has the most individual athletes honored with 131 to the OIA’s 102. The BIIF claims 43 honorees, followed by the MIL with 41 and the KIF with 24.
Punahou is the standard bearer with 44 different athletes in the Hall, but Kamehameha is closing fast with 43. Both schools put two athletes in this year, but Kamehameha has the longest streak, having at least one athlete inducted every year since it was shut out in 2005. Punahou has put someone in every year since 2006, matching an 8-year run by Saint Louis from 1986-1993.
Athletes in the Hall of Honor by school:
- 44: Punahou
- 43: Kamehameha
- 32: Iolani
- 24: Kahuku
- 24: Saint Louis
- 18: Baldwin
According to the HHSAA, the criteria is based mainly on athletic achievement but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service also are taken into consideration. Each inductee is eligible for a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
The following is a table of each awardee along with the year they were inducted and the schools they played for. Enjoy, and report any errors in the comments.
Hall of Honor Members
Jenny Kaeo attended Waiakea
I believe Iolani has 33 members if counted correctly.
Thanks, 808, I knew I was going to miss one. I have them down as 32, but I will doublecheck it later.
Thanks, Makani.
could you guys please list the sport each athlete participated in?
I don’t think we are ready for that yet, Mules, but I will share the spreadsheet with you.
sorry, but 1986 – Lawrence Khan-Smith was a Campbell High graduate, not Radford
Anymore pictures of the other athletes??
Howzit,
Does this include local boys or girls from other high school not in Hawaii but are local product? Reason I ask is that, I was station in Germany and of course when you station some where friendly you would take your family. But let me know if could add my daughter who was name Female All-European Athlete of the year.
Thank you and God Bless, Always in Our Lord Jesus Christ, ALWAYS!!!
Rick
