###

Campbell 51, Moanalua 6, Final

Campbell 51, Moanalua 6, 5:58, Q4

After a Campbell fumble recovery, Joshua Salvido rumbles for a 19-yard run, then scores on a 1-yard blast. Micah Kim blocks the PAT, the third blocked conversion attempt by Na Menehune.

Campbell 45, Moanalua 6, 7:19, Q4

Viliami Faumui runs four times in a row, scoring on a 4-yard punch over the right side.

THIRD QUARTER ENDS
Subs are in for Campbell, which means Kaipo is done for the night after a 24-for-41, 356-yard, five-TD performance. With no turnovers. He finishes just 32 yards short of the school mark. Isaac Hurd, you still top the chart.

Campbell 38, Moanalua 6, 5:20, Q3

Na Menehune get on the scoreboard with a smooth trick play, a hook-and-ladder from Nick Au to Javon Monico (3-yard pass) and lateral to Micah Kim (44-yard run). PAT kick misses.

Campbell 38, Moanalua 0, 5:20, Q3

Jacob Covington off right tackle for a 20-yard TD run. Kick misses. Mercy-rule running clock will be in effect.

Moanalua three and out, punt.

Campbell 32, Moanalua 0, 7:45, Q3

Kaipo launches a 32-yard bomb to Colon-Valentin and the lead is 32. Kaipo is now 24-for-41, 356 yards with five TDs and no picks.

Campbell 25, Moanalua 0, Halftime

Kaipo has thrown the ball a whopping 37 times with 21 completions for 289 yards. Clearly, balanced offense wasn’t part of the game plan. The strategy is working. He is on his way to perhaps getting close to the school record, which is 388 yards set by Isaac Hurd on Nov. 8, 2013, against Hilo at soggy Wong Stadium.

Makana Spencer has been impressive for Moanalua, running hard on every carry: 56 yards, 10 attempts.

Campbell drives to the Moanalua 5, but stalls out with three incompletions in a row

Moanalua three and out, punt, ball goes out at the Moanalua 48. Three plays later, it’s Kaipo to Adkins-Kupukea down the left hashmark for a 37-yard TD.

Campbell 18, Moanalua 0, 10:19, Q2

Campbell scores for the third time in three possessions. Adkins-Kupukea hauls in a tight spiral on a sideline route next to the left pylon. 13-yard TD despite tight coverage. PAT is blocked again by Jesse Kaohi, who rips through right up the middle.

FIRST QUARTER ENDS
The first quarter ends with Campbell in possession just over mid-field after an interception by Dylan Duque. That’s two picks already by the Sabers defense.

Campbell 12, Moanalua 0, 4:12, Q1

Moanalua picks up a first down, then punts. Poki‘i Adkins-Kupukaa returns the punt 15 yards to midfield. Six plays (and four completions later), Campbell is in the end zone again. Kaipo with a smooth deep post spiral to Gabriel Colon-Valentin, 28-yard TD. The PAT run is stuffed.

Pre-game
As usual, it’s a scalding hot afternoon at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium, all the more steamy thanks to the classic concrete bleachers. There must be a way to convert all that high temperature into solar energy or something. Moanalua won the JV game, 10-7. We are 12 minutes away from kickoff for the varsity game, which is almost precisely on schedule (5:31 p.m. kickoff). I don’t see any TV cameras here, so there will not be extended time outs.
