Iolani’s Bailey Choy and Kainoa Obrey fell short of their goal of a state title, but they were reminded today that an ILH title was nothing to shrug off.
Choy was named the ILH player of the year in division I and Obrey was selected coach of the year in voting by the league’s coaches.
Choy, a senior, was joined by Kamehameha junior Kayla Afoa and seven other seniors on the first team. Those players are Iolani’s Kaley Buscher and Moeia Kekauoha, Shiloh Peleras of Kamehameha, Mid-Pacific’s Lekaleaka Kiner-Falefa and Punahou’s trio of Dallas Lishman, Kiana Peroff and Brandee Markwith.
Kassidy Naone of Le Jardin was named the Division II player of the year before her team’s surprising run through states, and Lee Lamb was the coach of the year in his first year in charge of the program. Shelby Capllonch of Damien was a noteable addition to the Division II first team as a freshman.
Lutheran senior Doris Naulu is the player of the year in Division III and Hanalanai’s Krista Catian is the coach of the year. Island Pacific put three players on the first team, followed by Christian Academy and Hawaiian Mission with two each and Hanalani with one.
