By Kyle Sakamoto on September 22, 2018

St. Francis’ Kip Akana and sons Bubba and Chase Akana have always been together on the football field. The father has coached his sons since they were 7 or 8, according to Bubba, a senior quarterback for the Saints. “It’s getting kind of tiring because it’s been like that my whole life,” Bubba said. That might be true, but one thing that never gets tiring is winning, which is something St. Francis has done a lot of this season. The […]

Kalilikane-McMoore enjoys what might be his only game

By Nick Abramo on September 18, 2018

Saturday was a bright day in what has turned into a mess of a fall football season for Skylar Kalilikane-McMoore. Kalilikane-McMoore is a junior in high school, an offensive lineman for St. Francis, and he and is family are doing what they can through the court system to get him on the field as an eligible player this season. Amazingly, he was eligible for and got to play last Saturday in the Saints’ 26-6 victory over Pac-Five. But it’s possible […]

Kekahuna’s 2 90-yard TD’s highlight St. Francis win

By Paul Honda on September 16, 2018

Before every game, Joseph Kekahuna has simple, but pertinent advice for grandson Shepherd Kekahuna. “Take no prisoners.” Kekahuna did exactly that, clutching up in a scoreless battle with a determined Pac-Five squad on Saturday afternoon at Aloha Stadium. The versatile, two-way Saint returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown, and moments later, he broke off a 98-yard TD run. He finished with 110 rushing yards on five carries, and also caught three passes from Bubba Akana for 59 yards. […]

Defense brings Saints to life against Pac-Five

By Paul Honda on September 15, 2018

It was far from pretty, but in the end, the St. Francis Saints are quite perfect. The Saints improved to 5-0, 4-0 in ILH Division II, with a hard-earned 26-6 win over Pac-Five on a hot Saturday afternoon at Aloha Stadium. They played again without standout running back Jonan Aina-Chaves (ankle) and clearly missed the explosive playmaker. “Without (Aina-Chaves), the run game was weird because our running backs couldn’t hold the ball even though we made big holes for them,” […]
