Games are behind schedule because of the double-overtime consolation game between Kahuku and Radford.
Quarterfinal winners: Yates (Texas), Neumann-Goretti (Pa.), Columbia (Ga.) and favorite Montrose Christian (Md.).
Quarterfinal: Yates (Houston, Texas) 95, Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 88
Brandon Peters poured in 29 points, including a torrent of alley-oop dunks, and Joseph Young added 25 as the Lions survived an onslaught by Lutheran. Elton Roy added 12 points and Alexander Davis added 11 in a game that featured constant uptempo play.
“They ran us a lot. We told each other we had to pick it up,” Peters said, adding that Lutheran is similar to a team back home in Houston, Bel Air.
A 10-second shot clock would not have been necessary for both teams, which stuck with man-to-man pressure. Lutheran was particularly good most of the time against Yates’ helter-skelter fullcourt press.
Gabe York led Lutheran with 24 points, and added seven boards and four steals. James Douglas added 22 and Dylan Rice tallied 17 with 10 rebounds.
The most entertaining game of the tourney — and possibly the best in recent years — closed out a long Saturday as Yates, ranked sixth nationally, rallied from a 10-point deficit to avoid the big upset. Averaging 130 points per game coming into the Classic, Yates found the going tough against a fast, fundamentally-sound Lutheran squad.
Lutheran led 18-6 at the onset, giving Yates a taste of its own fastbreak medicine. Yates never panicked, however, and Young (a Providence recruit) triggered the rally that brought his team back midway through the second quarter. A torrent of alley-oop dunks, including several by Peters, shifted momentum back to Yates.
The lead changed hands eight times when Lutheran went on a 16-4 run to seize a 62-52 lead midway through the third quarter.
Yates was down 79-71 with 6 minutes left when Peters drove for a three-point play, sparking a 9-0 run.
Lutheran’s Mason Hahn scored on a layup to tie the game at 83, but it was all Yates from there. Davis, a 6-foot-9 center, scored inside on a three-point play, then hit a layup to give the Lions an 88-83 lead with 1:52 left.
Lutheran got a trey from James Douglas with 1:39 to go, cutting the margin to two, but the Lancers got no closer. Up 91-88, Yates scored the final four points in the last 26 seconds.
Davis led Yates inside with four blocks.

Sophomore Jarmal Reid’s putback with 6 seconds left gave the Eagles a comeback win over Gonzaga, ranked No. 12 nationally (USA Today).
Gonzaga called time out with 4.5 seconds left, then got a break when the time was moved back to 6 seconds by officials after some persistence by coach Steve Turner. The Eagles got the ball upcourt against pressure, but Cahli Thomas’ 3-pointer try from the top missed at the buzzer.
The game was tied at 42 early in the fourth quarter when both teams missed series of contested layups, and Reid missed a dunk. Ben Dickinson’s free throws gave Gonzaga a 44-42 lead with 6 minutes remaining.
Reid finished with a team-high 19 points. JerShon Cobb added 14.
Cedrick Lindsay paced Gonzaga with 23 points. Tyler Thornton tallied 18.

The tandem of Terrence Ross (26 points, nine rebounds) and Josh Hairston (24 and 12) powered the Mustangs over the gritty Raiders. Ross, a 6-6 senior, stroked three treys in the first quarter and three more in the third.
Jarrett Arakawa and Kainoa Chu each scored 16 points for ‘Iolani, the tourney host.

After a first half that featured 27 combined fouls by the teams, Neumann-Goretti went on an 8-0 run midway through the third quarter to take a 45-36 lead.
